Enrolment

Wairau Intermediate School are now accepting enrolment applications for the 2027 school year

Wairau Intermediate School welcomes students in Year 7 and Year 8 (ages 11 to 13).  With all that our school has to offer, we value you choosing Wairau for the next phase of your child’s educational journey.  We are incredibly proud of our learners and all that they achieve.  We belong to a vibrant and diverse community, who are supportive of all we do.

Over the last two years our roll has continued to grow, therefore we encourage you to enrol well in advance of the school year, to help with successful class placements and school organisation.

How to Enrol (In Zone and Out of Zone Enrolments)

While in zone applications will be given priority, we are also in the position of being able to consider out of zone applications for the 2027 school year.

Enrolling at Wairau is an easy process.  For all enrolments we require:

  • The completed enrolment form, downloaded from this website or collected from the school office.

  • Proof of address (i.e. a power bill or bank statement)

  • A copy of the birth certificate or passport (original sighted).

Scanned copies of these documents can be accepted and should be emailed with the enrolment form to our school secretary, Rui Stewart at ruis@wairau.school.nz.

For children who were not born in New Zealand and do not have a New Zealand passport, we will require one of the following:

  • Student’s residence permit or returning residence visa

  • Parent’s work permit and student’s permit/visa

  • Student’s New Zealand citizenship certificate

Hard copies of our enrolment packs are available at our school office.

Transition Days

To support a confident and exciting transition to intermediate school, Wairau Intermediate hold annual Transition Day visits for Year 6 students from our main contributing schools.  This full-day immersive experience is designed to inspire our future students, giving them hands-on time in our classrooms and a vibrant taste of the specialised technology and music programmes that await them.  Students travel by bus to Wairau Intermediate, leaving their school at approximately 9.00am and returning at 2.30pm.  Permission slips are organised through your school.  Year 6 students from other local (non-contributing) schools are also invited to join these Transition Days.

The Transition Days for 2026 are now complete.

Open Days/Evening

Wairau Intermediate School will be holding Open Days this August.  Parents, caregivers and students are warmly invited to visit the school on these days.  These visits are designed to give new students starting in 2027 and their parents/caregivers a chance to observe a vibrant, interactive snapshot of the school in action.  Throughout the day, tours of the school will be conducted by the Principal and Deputy Principals.  The Open Day dates are as follows:

Open Day 1 – Tuesday, 4 August   9.00am-3.00pm
